Ill Met By Moonlight.info

The story of the abduction, in 1944 from Crete, of General Kreipe, and of "In the footsteps of heroes", two expeditions in Crete remembering and honouring both the Greek and British heroes involved in the original         operation -a project inspired by a reading of the account, Ill Met by Moonlight,  written By William Stanley Moss. Please bear in mind, for reasons that will become clear, that the website is a 'work in progress'

SEEKING INFORMATION

This is a facility open to all to do what it says on the tin, to seek information. It comes from another website of mine. www.creteveterans.org.uk

Are you a veteran wondering what happened to your old pal so and so? Was a relative of yours someone who served in this conflict and you want to know more about some aspect, or are you like me, an interested party with lines of research that you are trying to explore?

My experience, on a couple of other sites related to this period, has produced some amazing results. A few photos of servicemen sat on one site for a year or more, the enquirer, a Greek whose father hid the men as escaped POWs, thought they were South Africans. Eventually an Australian contacted me to say he recognised one person as a near neighbour. I then put him in touch with the Greek enquirer. This ability to reach across the world is one of the best and most rewarding uses of the internet to my mind. Please make use of it by following the seeking information links below.

Seeking Information 1. Who is Private T Lagos and how did he become the only Greek soldier buried in the UK?

Follow this link 'LAGOS'

Seeking Information 2. What do you know of Spanish Republicans who fought with the Allies in Crete ?

Follow this link 'SPANISH REPUBLICANS IN CRETE'

Seeking Information 3. Do you know anything about the fighting that took place on the Akrotiri Peninsular. A local Crete Historian and former Mayor has sought help from one of our members Doug West.
