Location References from various written sources. These references, in the form of a letter followed by four or six numbers, are not conventional map co-ordinates in the form of degrees, minutes and seconds North and East but are specific to maps used at the time which had a grid overlay printed upon them. They come in two scales, 1:250,00 AND 1:50,00.The former are known as the series GSGS 4410, later as M.D.630. Two maps in this series cover Crete, G19 and G 20 (west and east respectively). In the 50,000 series, there are 19 maps covering Crete the bulk of Crete (not the extreme east) There series is known as M.D.R. 408. If any of you have any of these maps that you might wish to part with or be happy to copy, then please contact me.
